In this close-up TitanΓÇÖs dense atmosphere is clearly visible. The opaque reddish color of the clouds is caused by light from the Sun reacting with the atmosphere; substances such as nitrogen and liquid methane react to form a sort of ΓÇ£smog.ΓÇ¥ Similar atmospheric phenomena also occur on Earth.
Organic molecules formed in the atmosphere may accumulate as a thick frozen crust on TitanΓÇÖs surface. This process may be similar to that which created life on Earth, but Titan is probably too cold to allow the chemical reactions necessary for life to form. Also, any organic molecules on Titan are surrounded by methane rather than water, further interfering with reactions necessary for life.
